Goodwill Position with CAC AmeriCorps

Service Position Summary
Goodwill Industries-Knoxville, Inc. (GWIK) is a non-profit organization with the mission to provide vocational services and employment opportunities to individuals with barriers to employment within their 15-county service area in East Tennessee.
The selected AmeriCorps member will support GWIK’s Marketing staff to promote its mission. The selected member will gain practical experience developing and implementing special events and marketing campaigns to promote GWIK’s vocational training programs. The selected member will work closely with GWIK Marketing staff on a variety of projects, but will also be expected to work independently and contribute ideas for improvement.

Essential Functions of the Position
·         Learn the details of GWIK’s history, operations and promotional activities so they can be communicated effectively to various audiences.
·         Work with the Employment, Training and Rehabilitation staff to coordinate Marketing and Development activities in an effort to increase GWIK mission awareness in our service area.
·         Take a major role in coordinating all GWIK special/community events to ensure that all events are complete, correct and thoroughly planned to reach desired goals. The selected member is expected to contribute ideas and solutions for events such as the annual Vintage Fashion Show.
·         Build and maintain relationships with event sponsors, door prize donors and volunteers
·         Recruit and educate volunteers for GWIK Volunteer program.
·         Serve as a liaison between GWIK and community organizations when necessary. Attend other community events to spread the GWIK mission and gain contacts for GWIK.
·         Assist in boosting morale for all staff, volunteers and clients through interoffice communications, client activities and events, producing materials for the bulletin board and other marketing tools.
·         Contribute to creative process of planning new and innovative ways to spread awareness of Goodwill’s programs and services, add improvements to all special events and activities and contribute to brainstorming/planning sessions with fellow staff members.
·         Complete reports and record keeping duties in a timely manner, including tracking volunteer files and assisting in producing Plan of Action Reports when needed for community events.
·         Work diligently in the community to advertise GWIK and to create a positive image for all GWIK service programs.
·         Provide a good role model by following organizational policies and procedures.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
·         Able to work independently or with a team to follow instructions and complete assigned tasks.
·         Once familiar with the task at hand, able to take the initiative to figure out what needs to be done and how to do it.
·         Must have strong organizational skills to be able to balance a busy schedule and complete deadlines.
·         Able to communicate on a person-to-person basis to build relationships and interact appropriately with staff, customers, nonprofit partners, clients and others.
·         Able to write in a clear, concise style and to edit for syntax, grammar and spelling.
·         Able to speak in public and to field questions about the details of a program or project.
·         Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Adobe Creative Suite and social media outlets.
·         Valid driver’s license with good driving record.

Academic and Other Qualifications
·         Preference will be given to graduates who have obtained a 4-year degree from an accredited college or university.
·         Applicants with a work history in marketing/communications or related field will be given preference.
·         Prior experience working with people with disabilities and/or other disadvantages preferred.

Service Conditions
·         Most work will be in an office setting, but local travel may be necessary.
·         The selected member may be required to perform additional position duties by the supervisor.
·         The selected member is expected to show up for work on time each day in attire appropriate for an office setting.
·         Must be able to appropriately handle confidential information.

Physical Demands
·         Push/pull 20lbs. Manual labor is not a primary function of this position; however, the selected member may be required to move materials for special events.
